Metallica's first demo : when released, was only
intended to give people a taste of what Metallica sounded like. The quality
of the recording on the final release of the demo was ok, but in comparison
to "Kill 'Em All" sounded very "muffled and monotone".
This is the original recording of this studio sessions. There were only 2 of
these tapes produced (the session was recorded on 2 separate machines
simultaneously, one as a back-up). One of the tapes went to Lars Ulrich and
the other to Ron McGovney. These tapes are the pre-edit recordings, they
include all the false-starts, count-ins, voices, etc. These 2 tapes are also
referred to as the first-generation "No Life 'Til Leather" tapes (to put
things into perspective, the tapes that were released through the Fanclubs
are 4th-generation, way over-edited).The sound quality is UNBELIEVABLE!!!
When you hear this you think i just ripped the "Kill 'Em All" CD, but you'll
notice the different lyrics, how young James' voice sounds, how much faster
the songs
sound, the guitar solos that are definitely played by Dave Mustaine, and the
thumpier, more upfront bass of Ron McGovney, and it actually sounds better
than "Kill 'Em All".
Now for the "RARE BONUS": this is the ONLY recording of this
song/demo/outtake in existence.This is definitely EXCLUSIVE ! It's an
untitled, unfinished song written and played by James Hetfield and Ron
McGovney recorded in mid-1982. Ron is playing the bass-line on his Gibson
Les Paul. Friends of the band have speculated that it sounds like the
beginnings of a song on "Ride The Lightning". This song isn't part of the
studio-session recordings, this was recorded separately in Ron's Garage on
his Panasonic tape recorder. This cassette is a replica, of Ron's cassette
which came from the original tape that was in that tape-recorder! It's been
recorded on a chrome cassette for best quality sound!
There's no fake crowd noise on this version. |
