Taper: Karl Lundmark
Gear: Aiwa CM-30a > Sony D3
Transferred & mastered by }{eywood
Lineage: Sony UX60 cassettes (1) > Optimus SCT-57 playback deck > Adobe
Audition 1.5 (recording to .wav @ 24/96, speed correction, EQ, stereo
simulation of patches for dropped channel, patching tapeflips, peak limiting,
splits & fades) > Xrecode II (conversion to 16/44.1) > TLH sector alignment,
flac 8)
Apparently Karl was having trouble with the mic at this show. Some little
bursts of static plagued the right channel, and a few dropouts take place.
The worst dropout is one about 3 minutes long in Seek & Destroy. I patched
the missing right channel with the left, then spatialized this mono portion
into stereo, trying to match as best I could the soundstage of the rest of
the recording. This stereoization process was applied to the next 18 minutes
of the show as well, because Karl made the mono folddown himself on the
copy.
There were also three missing portions in the show. The first was just after
James' solo in Master of Puppets. This was patched with two different shows
synchronized, the first (Paris 5/21/90) to get the music, the other
(Indianapolis 5/6/88), which sounded like it was recorded from the men's
room, to get the reverb. The second patch is in the 2nd choruse of Seek &
Destroy, which was patched with the 1st chorus. The final break in the show
is in the guitar solo. This one I left as is because it was impossible to
match the sonic characteristics of this show with another show, and because
it's also impossible to sync up a guitar solo with another similar guitar
solo.
