Awesome recording from totally
different source !!!! This an IEM recording : IEM stands for In-Ear Monitor.
It is a system used by most major touring bands that allows them to hear
their vocals and/or instruments through a discrete earpiece. It also allows
the band to communicate with each other and the crew while on stage. IEM
works through an FM frequency. Each IEM goes to a different member of the
band. Dave gets one signal, while other members will hear something else.
Tapers used a scanner to pick up the frequency and taped some shows via the
IEM system. IEM is not the same thing as soundboard, obviously. There are
different frequencies, or channels, used for different instruments and
vocals. An IEM recording may highlight drums or guitar ; it is not
representative of a full show. The signal itself is not stereo, but a mono
signal. This time, by luck, they recorded Dave's one : so his voice and
guitar are very in front : can hear very clearly all that Dave plays/sings
(and he'd a killin' sound that night !!!). Only the second guitar sounds
far. |
