I've got this show from my mega
partner Felix. Here's his comments about this "historical" show :
"When one of my trading mates told me he got that show of course I refused
to believe that finally after almost 22 years the recording of the first
ever Megadeth show was found. But after we compared the setlist with the
02-19-84 show and other later shows, the conclusion was evident. It was
February 17, 1984. Once again there are some things that made the judgment
harder or gave reasons to doubt about the date. First, the quality of the
recording itself is really bad and ...strange. It has lots of echoing to the
parts when Dave talks, and quite a lot of distortion to the music. Mix is
also quite bad cause you almost cannot hear Dave's vocals. But you surely
can make out what Dave's playing! In the beginning of the show, some guy
shouts out "Looking Down the Cross"! Now the question is if it was February,
it was Megadeth first show, and the Megadeth "Last Rites" demo would be
released only around June, how the hell could he know this songtitle?! Seems
there either was another demo or simply I don't know the explanation.
Another thing that makes me even more doubtful is that Dave never mentions
throughout the entire show that it was their first show. This is strange,
but possible. I also have Abattoir recording from this gig, who opened for
Megadeth and it sounds way better. The band: Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson,
Kerry King (people in the audience shout Slayer and "Show No Mercy"!) and
Lee Rausch. Hopefully time will tell if we are wrong or right about this
show."
