Taper: Koondog/Rush-Fan
Gear: Sony D3
Master cassette sent to }{wywood for transfer and mastering
Lineage: cassette (M) > Optimus SCT-57 playback deck > Adobe Audition 1.5 (recording
at 24/96, extensive speed correction, peak limiting, splits & fades) >
Xrecode II (conversion to 16/44) > TLH (sector alignemnt, flac 8)
This was a little bit difficult to make presentable. The taper took 2 sets
of previously used batteries to the show assuming one would be good enough
for the opening bands and the other for Judas Priest. He was wrong. The
first set of batteries died 3 songs into Testament's set, and the 2nd set
died after about 40 minutes of Megadeth's set. Whilwe the batteries were
dying the recorder got slower and slower, so playback of the tape started to
increase in speed about 3 songs in and kept doing so until the batteries
finally quit altogether just before the end of Peace Sells, at which point
it sounded like it was the chipmunks.
I speed corrected this digitally by ear, matching as close as I could tell
the correct pitch for the songs. Smores had previouly circulated a transfer
he did of this where he tried to correct the speed by adjusting the speed of
the tape deck while making the capture. He wished me good luck at my attempt.
I think I did pretty good. What's here still isn't perfect because the
recorder would slow down in steps. You may not be able to play guitar to it,
but it's pretty close.
The only song missed was Anarchy. |
