Recorded from: GA floor, about 10 feet behind the right side of the
soundboard. rowdy crowd, but not too chatty overall.
Taper: Steve "ballsdeep" Hagar
first off, this tape was the one used to make the "A Tour Le Monde" cd.
second, they had to cut a song to make it fit (that song is included here, I
thought it was more than one, but may be mistaken), this is the COMPLETE
version from the master tape of a silver cd.
thirdly, they did NO type of EQ before releasing the cd. the sound in America
West Arena was not the best, but I did do some pretty severe EQ to this
version. the 'brittle' sound is still there, but I feel the lo-end is much
more rounded (read: crankable), and the mids and highs are much more balanced
(it looks so pretty bouncing now on my analyzer compared to the raw master).
is is perfect? heck no? to my ears, does it sound like a stark, if not vast
improvement? fuck yes.
fourth, while I *did* EQ it, I did not employ any noise reduction. you can
hear this at the beginning with the hiss...but trust me, when the hiss
disappears due to music being played, and the dynamics kick in, you don't hear
it. at all. (except when Dave speaks between the songs)
to my ears, doing it this way allowed the show to 'breathe' more. again,
there's a bit of brittle crunch to the mids/highs (cymbals), but the guitars
ring clear over everything else. as it should be.
